Implant Supported Dentures Spokane, WA
Traditionally, dentures have been known to increase function, but they have never been described as feeling natural or comfortable. In fact, though they may be necessary, they are often thought of as being a source of frustration and embarrassment. Today, our patients have options, options that can greatly increase their feel and comfort, allowing you to chew your regular diet and even forget that you're wearing dentures. At Bryan Hill, DDS we can help you have dentures that will look and feel like your natural teeth.
Using dental implants, we can help your denture be retained in your mouth. A dental implant is a solid post that we can secure directly to your jawbone. Once healed, we can use these implanted posts to hold your denture firmly in place. There are options that allow your denture to be both permanently set and removable.
Removable Implant-Supported Overdentures
A removable implant supported overdenture provides the patient with dentures that are firmly held in place while being worn, with the option to remove them when needed. Depending on the bone mass available, we may need to bulk up the bone with a bone graft prior to surgery. In general, we will surgically place between four and six implants to retain your denture.
Implant supported dentures that can be removed when needed include:
Bar-Retained, Implant-Supported Overdentures
A bar-retained, implant supported overdenture combines the use of implants and a bar system to hook your denture in place, while still allowing the denture to be unhooked for cleaning or to rest your gums.
Ball-Retained, Implant-Supported Overdentures
A ball-retained, implant supported overdenture uses a feature that allows the denture to be snapped on and off the implant head. This means that when it is snapped on, it is firmly stable, but it can still be pulled off for cleaning or to rest your gums.
Both overdenture options provide the patient with dentures that will stay firmly in place, they will not rock on your gums, they will not accidentally slip in social gatherings. They will provide the patient with assurance that they will remain where they should, helping them feel like your natural teeth.
Permanent Implant-Supported Dentures
Another option for implant supported dentures provides dentures that are not removable, they will stay firmly and permanently placed. Known as the All-on-4® Treatment Concept, this system combines your denture with dental implants for permanent retention. The All on 4 uses implants that are designed to be longer in length and placed at an angle to capture thicker bone. This means that a bone graft is not needed, saving the patient months of wait. Your denture will quickly feel more natural, improving your speech and your ability to chew.
Permanent Implant-Supported Partial Dentures
Implants can be used to retain partial dentures, known as a dental bridge, permanently in place. A dental bridge is known for using natural teeth to retain the prosthetic, but it can also be used with dental implants, or any combination of both, for retention. We can fill in the gaps and restore missing teeth with a dental bridge, natural teeth and/or tooth implants.
Choosing The Right Option
Implants have opened up a wide variety of restoration options. In order to fully identify what they are, we will need to examine your pre-existing arches and the amount of bone tissue you have available to you. If you are interested in implant-supported dentures, call us today at (509) 505-6303.
