Every Day Habits That Can Lead To Tooth Sensitivity
The wearing down of enamel is a common cause of tooth sensitivity. There are a few ways we wear it down. Brushing your teeth is of course an excellent and necessary habit for healthy teeth and gums. But did you know you can brush too hard? Brushing with a bit too much vigor, or with a toothbrush that has hard bristles, can wear away protective enamel, and lead to sensitive teeth. Some of our favorite foods and drinks are acidic, and therefore, over time, can erode enamel, causing tooth sensitivity. Excessive plaque on our teeth and gum line can do the same. As plaque sits, it eats away at our protective enamel. Habits that are sometimes beyond our control, like tooth grinding, eventually wear down the enamel, also leading to sensitive teeth. Besides the loss of enamel, some mouthwashes contain alcohol or other ingredients that can cause tooth sensitivity. A similar problem occurs with some whitening toothpastes.
