How To Care for the Teeth of Children

Baby teeth hold space for the adult teeth later in life. Taking care of their teeth protects them from cavities and other oral issues. This is because serious oral issues like tooth decay can cause your child pain, making it difficult for them to chew. It might also lead to your child having a hard time in school and create problems with their adult teeth.

Simple Steps To Prevent Tooth Decay

Most children will get their first teeth around the age of six months. Therefore, you are to start the oral health habits early to allow your child to grow into it. You should ensure that you wipe their gums with a clean cloth at least twice a day before the teeth start to erupt. As soon as the teeth come in, clean them 2 times a day and teach your child how to do it. Also, protect their teeth by using fluoride-based toothpaste. Moreover, do not give your child sugary foods or drinks, and take them for regular checkups.

How To Teach Your Child Good Oral Hygiene

Cavities are the most common issue in children due to their love for sweet and sugary foods. However, you can start to teach your child at a young age to have good dental hygiene tips by allowing them to choose their toothbrush. They can pick one that shows their favorite color and TV character. Also, allow them to pick their favorite toothpaste flavor. Ensure that they read books and watch videos that talk about oral hygiene to get them more interested.

Lastly, reward your kids for having good oral care. Do not give them any sugary treats. Instead, offer them something healthy and simple, like apple slices and a gold star on a sticker chart. Continue good oral care with your child by scheduling regular dental checkups.
